Ingredients and amounts

  • 4-5 pork ribs (or pork bones as substitute), to taste
  • 1 segment of aged tangerine peel (typically 8-20 years aged; 1 whole piece is 3 segments, use 1 segment)
  • 9 slices American ginseng (also known as Panax quinquefolius), to taste
  • 6 dendrobium stems
  • 5 slices polygonatum odoratum (jade bamboo)
  • 7 ophiopogon japonicus (dwarf lilyturf) roots
  • 1 soup pot (for 1 serving)
  • 5 g salt, to taste

Step-by-step method

  1. Step 1

Blanch the pork ribs in hot water to remove blood and impurities.

  2. Step 2

Rinse the tangerine peel, ophiopogon, polygonatum odoratum, dendrobium, and American ginseng until clean.

  3. Step 3

    Wash the soup pot thoroughly.

  4. Step 4

Open the soup pot and place the pork ribs at the bottom. Then add the tangerine peel, ophiopogon, polygonatum odoratum, dendrobium, and American ginseng in order.

  5. Step 5

Add hot water to the soup pot, being careful not to fill it too full.

  6. Step 6

Place the pot in a larger container of water and simmer for 1.5 hours.

  7. Step 7

    Add salt and serve hot.
